Are you guys mad?

Possibly.  Although crossing Bass Strait in a sea kayak is more achievable than it first seems.

Where will you sleep?

We plan to navigate a string of islands across eastern Bass Strait so that we can camp each night.  Sorry to disappoint, but unless something goes wrong, we won't sleep in our boats!

Will you have a support vessel?

No.  Just 5 guys in 4 plastic tubs the width of a wheelbarrow and the length of a family car.

Why?

For adventure.  And for a good cause.

Have you done something like this before?

No.  We've done other sea kayak expeditions but nothing of this scale.  We've all done other varous physical/outdoor things, but basically we're 5 regular Aussie blokes!

Has this been done before or are you the first?

There have been many sea kayak crossings of Bass Strait over the years.  The first is believed to be in April 1971.

How will you eat?

We will pack and carry all of our food, water and camping supplies in our boats.

How do you go to the toilet?

Trade secret.

Aren't you a bit reckless?  Isn't it irresponsible to rely on rescue services?

Yes and no.  Any outdoor pursuit is potentially reckless.  But we've taken all reasonable precautions: appropriate safety equipment, specialist training, intensive preparation, etc.

Will you be able to communicate with the outside world?

Yes.  We'll have an onboard laptop with internet access (Next G) to download weather forecasts, and upload blogs and photos.  We'll have ships radios, and mobile phones.  When we get to Flinders Island there will be regular telephone services.

Why Bipolar Disorder?

Because it's a shocker, and because there isn't enough know about it.
